| This year, the DOWNTOWN
EATERY in Warsaw, Indiana will be celebrating its eighteenth
year of business. Many changes have
occurred around us since 1991. We have grown with Warsaw and today are very proud of our
community and our position in it.

One mainstay of our menu, the original
Kaiser’s Italian Sub, takes its namesake from the building’s longtime owners,
Marv and Alice Kaiser. They operated
Kaiser’s Inn at this location throughout the
seventies. In 1985 they retired and sold
the business, building and recipes to Tom and Rocky Clemens, who along with their
brother Gordy opened Gordy’s Sub Pub, using Marv’s famous recipes. The business thrived and the building was
heavily renovated and emerged an even bigger attraction for the community. In
1990 the Clemens brothers purchased the property widely known as the Old
Village Inn at the corner of Buffalo and Winona Avenue in Warsaw and moved Gordy’s
Sub Pub to that location. Brothers Tom
and Rocky opened The Downtown Eatery early in 1991, continuing to sell the
famous subs, expanding the menu, and adapting to the change around them.
|
| In
1995 the Downtown, as it referred to by locals, purchased the
building next to it. The building was torn down and replaced with
a beautiful patio for outdoor dining and socials. The garden, as it is referred to has been a
source of great, relaxing lunches and dinners for ten years now! The kitchen at the Downtown was also renovated
at this time enabling the Downtown to expand its dinner capabilities. |

In 1997 Kristi Burris joined the company as
an owner. In short order she became a
great asset for the business. Menu
improvements, creative business ideas, great service, and sparkling environment
had now become a tradition at the Downtown.
In 2001, Kristi Burris-Boren and Tom Clemens became sole owners of the
Downtown Eatery and have maintained this tradition, and continued to grow.
|
| So, as we enter
our eighteenth year, we still continue to keep the things that are great
throughout time…like great service, cleanliness, and of course, awesome
food! We also strive to grow and change
positively within the community we belong to. |
